[interview] 3 Art questions to Abinadi Meza

Hello Abinadi, our Digital Pavilion is dedicated to the relationship between art and diversity and their perception in society. We propose some questions on the topic:

1) Our Digital Pavilion is dedicated to the relationship between art and diversity, as well as the perception of these themes in society. Any thoughts on the subject?

I think art is beautiful because it resists homogeneity and stasis by seeking newness, variety and transformation. In advanced capitalism we are conditioned to see consumer objects in this way, as satisfying our human need for newness, variety and transformation, but that is a lie. Mere consumer objects cannot actually provide this. Of course art participates in consumer systems but, strangely perhaps - also participates in an experiential world at no cost or no additional cost to people in general (even if just in image form on the internet). Even if it is a fetish or collectible thing, in order to be “significant" it must be circulated and viewable to non-owners, and this image - the image of the non-possessed thing - contains potential seeds of experience, thought, and transformation.

2) In your opinion, what is the contribution that art makes to sensitivity towards diversity?

I hope that art and artists push for newness and diversity. Otherwise we seal ourselves in a pharaoh's tomb of aesthetic stasis, which may be death perfected, but it is still death. I’ll choose life over death every time I am able to choose.

3) In your opinion, how do the diversities of the world provide inspiration and innovation in the world of art?

I think art has always been drawing from the world no matter how abstracted or sublimated the inspiration might be. It’s a way of responding to the world, reflecting and interpreting realities. Personally speaking, I am flooded with ideas every time I travel. Just the act of movement itself fills me with new thoughts and perceptions. It’s not dependent upon arrival. Moving is thinking, or more accurately - moving is dreaming.

1 ) Il nostro Padiglione Digitale #Uaremyproblem è dedicato alla relazione tra arte e diversità, nonché alla percezione di questi temi nella società. Tu cosa ne pensi in merito?

Penso che l'arte sia bella perché resistere all'omogeneità e alla staticità cercando novità, varietà e trasformazione. Nel capitalismo avanzato siamo condizionati a vedere gli oggetti di consumo in questo modo, come soddisfacenti il nostro bisogno umano di novità, varietà e trasformazione, ma è una bugia. Mere oggetti di consumo non possono effettivamente fornire questo. Naturalmente, l'arte partecipa ai sistemi di consumo ma, stranamente forse, partecipa anche a un mondo esperienziale a costo zero o senza costi aggiuntivi per le persone in generale (anche solo in forma di immagine su Internet). Anche se è una cosa da collezione o un feticcio, per essere "significativo" deve essere diffuso e visibile anche ai non proprietari, e questa immagine - l'immagine della cosa non posseduta - contiene potenziali semi di esperienza, pensiero e trasformazione.

2) Secondo te, quale contributo offre l'arte alla sensibilità verso la diversità?

Spero che l'arte e gli artisti promuovano l'innovazione e la diversità. Altrimenti ci rinchiudiamo in una tomba del faraone della staticità estetica, che può essere una morte perfezionata, ma resta comunque morte. Sceglierò sempre la vita rispetto alla morte ogni volta che ho la possibilità di scegliere.

3) Secondo te, in che modo le diversità del mondo forniscono ispirazione e innovazione nel mondo dell'arte?

Penso che l'arte abbia sempre tratto ispirazione dal mondo, indipendentemente da quanto astratta o sublimata possa essere l'ispirazione. È un modo di rispondere al mondo, riflettendo e interpretando le realtà. Personalmente, sono sommerso di idee ogni volta che viaggio. Il semplice atto del movimento stesso mi riempie di nuovi pensieri e percezioni. Non dipende dall'arrivo. Muoversi è pensare, o più accuratamente - muoversi è sognare.
